put it all together, and i haven't a single downside. not the finest i've ever had, but truly delicious. said manager cheerfully removed the two plates swiftly, and the oysters were combined onto just one larger plate, returned spicy, sizzling and beautifully charred in just MOMENTS, as i'd hoped they'd be in the first place. i took this to be a bad sign, but no (that CAN be a bad sign at too many spots in too many cities). NOT a complainer, i politely mentioned this to the very accommodating young fellow who took our order, who offered to bring over his manager. my dozen-plus, medium-sized oysters arrived tepid on two plates, with some barely warm-to-cool. shrimp and grits was terrific our table's favorite.

all three of our entrees arrived simultaneously, so first kudos there. i DID ask where the oysters originated and when they came in, and server elaborated after seeking advice from the kitchen. indianapolis/oysters maybe not the smartest decision, but it seemed worth a try, based on the spot's reputation. i opted for a double order of grilled oysters on half shell, from the appetizer menu. menu is wonderful, making just one choice difficult. lively, casually dressy and convivial spot in the trendy broad ripple area, a neighborhood i hadn't visited in decades. If you are on the North side of Indianapolis and want a good dinner in a comfortable setting, give Northside Social a try.Dinner with dear friends of long standing last evening at indianapolis' northside social. Things came out in a timely manner and everyone had something in front of him at pretty much the same time. Some of the specialty drinks were decent but the standard stuff was kind of ordinary. The server, who was perfectly knowledgeable about the food, knew relatively little about the bar items. Cocktail service at our table was somewhat lackluster. At our table, with 6 of us present, the variety ranged from fish, to salads, to big red meat dishes and all were great. Food seems to be creative preparations of classic American dining dishes. The room is very attractive with pretty decent lighting (although we all still used the flashlights on our phones to read the menu) and the noise level, while fairly high, doesn't prevent conversation. I don't particularly enjoy being the only geezer in the place when I eat out. Clientele was widely varied which felt good. The Thursday night we dined there it was jumping. The restaurant is in a strip center near the center of the Broadripple commercial area and is quite unassuming from the outside. What an extremely disappointing experience.įamily members of mine who live in Indianapolis and environs have apparently been going to this local spot for some time but this was my first. We did not ask for an extra table, an extra booth, to rearranged anything, or to be at one table, simply to add an additional chair to ANY of our nearby existing tables for ONE extra person. Again we were the ONLY (15) patrons in the ENTIRE restaurant for the next hour and 1/2. Not to mention most, if not all, establishments keep extra chairs in back. His argument was that his next reservation was in an HOUR and a HALF and he would need the chair. Peacefully but disturbed, we left the restaurant because the manager, Nathan, would not allow us to have ONE extra chair in a completely EMPTY restaurant. We never expected or asked to be at one table as we had separate reservations. I was so excited as I was looking forward to trying Northside Social for the first time. Yesterday, my party that made separate reservations for 4pm arrived at the restaurant which opens at 4pm. I love and take joy in writing positive reviews but what happened yesterday was NOT ok.
